We begin our breakdown of UFC 104 which provided several interesting story lines, many that aren’t directly about the fights. I recap my bout prognostication (I went 3-1 on outcomes) and breakdown the main event fight between Machida and Rua.

We finish out our UFC 104 preview by breaking down the light heavyweight title fight between Lyoto Machida and Mauricio Rua. Will the fight play out by the numbers and allow Machida to be the first to defend the belt since Quinton Jackson defeated Dan Henderson, or do Rua and UFC have an ace up their sleeves?

Rough show tonight after getting started late. We briefly cover Gleison Tibau vs. Josh Neer and then move on to the much more significant Cain Velasquez vs. Ben Rothwell. The heavyweight bout is the co-main event of the evening and will determine the challenger for the winner of Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin.

Flying through the rest of the under card and right into the main card of UFC 104, I take the time to analyze the lightweight match between Joe Stephenson and Spencer Fisher, a potential “Fight of the Night.”

Beginning our preview of UFC 104 early with discussion of Yushin Okami vs. Chael Sonnen, a fight that isn’t getting nearly the respect it deserves because the combatants have the potential for “boring fights”. My big question: is four shows too many to devote to an event preview?

I think submission attempts are usually looked at too highly by judges. What is really going on, in terms of the fight as a whole, when a submission attempt fails? Also, the end of the year MMA schedule looks to be killer. Are you ready for all the action?

I think the 10-point must system in MMA is broken. It doesn’t allow for enough nuance and invites more subjectivity than anyone wants. I propose for the first time “The R.A. System” for judging MMA. (Name subject to change.)

The viruses have abated their fury long enough for me to produce my usual ten minutes of wonder. Recapping the last two fights on the WEC 43 main card including the fantastic main event between Donald Cerrone and Ben Henderson.

WEC 43 was a much needed reprieve from the desolate MMA schedule of late. Plenty to talk about from one of the most entertaining cards of the year including the 30-27, 27-30, 29-28 split decision win for Raphael Assuncao.

I breakdown who deserves Fighter of the Year on a listener’s request and talk about the merits of Saturday night’s WEC 43 headlining right between Donald Cerrone and Benson Henderson. Yea for some MMA to talk about!
